Personal Leadership Philosophy
Personal Leadership Philosophy
My personal leadership philosophy is similar to my meaning of life. My personal leadership philosophy is centered around people. To be clear, this is all people, your family, your friends, your co-workers, and anyone you will meet in the future. All in all, it’s the relationships you have or will have and how in-depth they are. Banksy, a world-renowned artist, said that you die twice. You die once when you physically pass away and once when somebody says your name for the last time. For me, I believe that the second time you die is actually when your influence ends. In my life, my goal is to make a positive impact on as many people to pass on my beliefs and philosophies.
My values were put into perspective when a good friend of mine, Ashton Flasco, passed away under unheard-of circumstances. At the time, I did not know how to cope and reached a low point in my life. After some time, I was able to establish my value in my relationships to not only give my life direction but to also honor her. Although she is gone, she lives on in my heart.
With one core value down, I learned that my other core values are trustworthiness, dependability, integrity, and happiness. I now try to lead in a way that honors my core values. I see leadership as a responsibility to lead others to the success leaders have in mind. This success could be in tangible items like profits or closed accounts, but it could also be intangible items such as happiness or team chemistry.
For my teams, the teams must be honest and dependable to me and each other. Without trust, there can be no true success in a team. This can be done by teams getting to know each other in a genuine way to learn that they are working with a person and not a number or task.
The traits that make me an effective leader are honesty, perseverance, non-judgemental listening, and an energetic personality. I do not know what the future holds and I do not know if I will have a formal or informal leadership role, but I do know that I will try to implement these beliefs into my teams and my work to reach my goals.
