Fish Camp

An Aggie Family Supporting All Freshmen

Welcome Home

As a first-generation Aggie, I was terrified to start my life at Texas A&M. All the yells, traditions, and overall lifestyle can be a lot to learn if you did not grow up with it. Everything changed the moment I set foot on the Reed Arena parking lot in the Summer of 2018. I was amazed by how people who barely knew me, cared about me so much. My freshman year Fish Camp experience provided me with my first college friend, Ana Lara, two established college student mentors, Ashlie Frederikson and Kyle Carmen, and most importantly, a love for Texas A&M.

The Mejias Machine

Despite a longer than anticipated period of time, I returned to Lakeview in the Summer of 2021 as a Fish Camp Counselor. Unlike my first time, my fears were that I was too old for the role. I was an incoming senior in college performing a role typically done by incoming sophomores and juniors. My fears soon proved to be incorrect as I was able to experience the surreal unique time as an "Old First-Year Counselor". I was able to have all of the fun of a first-year counselor while also being able to serve as a mentor for the younger members of the camp. I could go on forever about my time in Camp Mejias but to cut-to-the-chase, I'll leave it at this: I gained in-depth relationships with almost every counselor in camp, met my "perfect partner", an incredible discussion group of incoming freshmen, and an experience I will never forget! Also, side note, we were YELL OFF CHAMPIONS!
