Aspirations

"Great accomplishments begin with great aspirations" - Gary Hamel

Putting First Things First

The future has always been a scary thing to think about for me. Committing to specific items with the possibility of not meeting self-imposed standards, or even worse, reaching my set goals and being disappointed or unhappy. A few years ago, I realized that I could have goals and dreams without being locked into them if I made them broad enough. My current aspirations for the future are focused on happiness through relationships, careers, and hobbies.

For relationships, I hope to maintain the important relationships I have and will have in the future. one day find a wife to love. I do not have a timeline, but I am currently in no rush. I have faith that God, fate, and my dad jokes will put me on the right path to finding a soulmate to love. I would also love to have children. I do not have a plan on how many or what gender, but parenthood is an experience I would love to have (at the correct time of course). For my friends, I aspire to be a dependable, genuine, and fun person to have in their lives. For my future wife, I aspire to be an honest, loyal, and loving husband. Finally, for my children, I aspire to be a present, understanding, patient, and loving father.

As a child, I always scoffed at the "What do you want to be when you grow up?" question. I saw so many possibilities and positives in each one, but I also found each one's negatives as well. This made me see jobs as something you have to do, not something you get to do. I have recently learned that I could shape what makes me happy with what I am good at to find a career. I am currently on a bit of hiatus at the moment, but I know I want to work with people and travel in my career in the future. This has led me to an interest in management consulting. In the future when my family is more financially stable, I aspire to become a teacher and coach as well. Mentorship has played a large part in my life, and I would love to be a mentor to children.

This last section is a bit open-ended. I aspire to be able to find time outside of my work and family life for my personal life and hobbies. Whether it be more self-discipline or good time-management skills, personal time is something I know I will need to do my hobbies. My hobbies include working out, playing golf and tennis, and traveling. It will be challenging to make the time, but I aspire the willpower to be successful in it.
